Opening of the Plastics Recycling Plant in Krakow, Poland

The official inauguration of the new Plastics Recycling Plant in Krakow took place on 30 September 2024. It is the most modern installation of this type in Poland.

The Plastics Recycling Plant is one of the key elements of the Municipal Waste Recycling Center, which is being built at the Municipal Cleaning Company in Krakow. As emphasized by representatives of the MPO, the Plastics Recycling Plant was designed with maximum recovery of raw materials and waste minimization in mind. Waste belonging to the so-called "flat fraction" is received here. They are separated during the sorting of municipal waste - both from selectively collected plastics, as well as from mixed waste. This fraction includes polyethylene foil, both transparent and colored.

The Plastics Recycling Plant has installed two cooperating technological lines: an installation for preparing foil for recycling by separating polyethylene foil from various types of foil and an installation for recycling foil. Sutco Polska is one of the key contractors for the technological part of the plant and was responsible for the comprehensive design, construction and launch of the installation for preparing foil for recycling.

In the mechanized and automated process of foil segregation in the installation, PE foil with a material purity of over 90% is separated in two streams: as transparent foils and as other foils (mix). The technological preparation line allows for continuous feeding of PE foil to the recycling line in the amount of no less than 10,000 Mg per year.

This is another step towards achieving EU and national goals related to recycling and climate protection.
