Sutco Polska at the 12th National IPOK Congress 2024

Sutco Polska actively participated in the 12th National Congress of Municipal Waste Processing Installations (IPOK), held from November 20–22, 2024, in Szczyrk. The event brought together top experts, practitioners, and representatives of the industry, serving as an important forum for sharing knowledge and experiences on the current challenges in waste management.

This event, which enjoys a reputation as one of the most important industry meetings in Poland, was full of lectures, debates and meetings at the highest substantive level. The speakers included renowned specialists, representatives of financial institutions, lawyers and practitioners.

The IPOK 2024 Congress was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, deepen knowledge and establish valuable industry contacts. Discussions focused on the current challenges facing waste management in Poland. Key legislative issues and topics were raised, including: increasing recycling levels, introduction of the deposit system, extended producer responsibility (ERP), waste processing efficiency and new technologies in waste management.

One of the most important moments of the Congress was the speech of Marek Klimek, Sales and Development Manager at Sutco Polska, who presented the topic of "Municipal waste sorting installations facing the new challenges: increasing recycling levels, deposit system and EOP". In his lecture, he discussed, among others: the impact of the deposit system on the technological functioning of waste sorting installations, the economic effects of introducing the deposit system, the costs and effects of implementing as well as possible ways to respond installation system for new challenges. His presentation was met with great interest from the participants, evoking numerous questions and comments. A particularly lively exchange of views took place after the panel discussion, which was attended by representatives of installations from various provinces. The talks focused on practical issues, such as profits from the sale of secondary raw materials, differences in recycling levels in the regions and the rising costs of waste management.

Participants drew attention to the challenges associated with investing in modern technologies and the need to adapt to changing regulations, including the introduction of a deposit system and extended producer responsibility (EPR). The need for greater cooperation between facilities was also emphasized in order to effectively implement ambitious recycling goals and reduce operating costs.

The lively debate showed that the industry is ready for dialogue and development of common solutions that will allow for more effective meeting of the challenges related to the transformation of the waste management system in Poland.

At the end of the Congress, the participants had a unique opportunity to visit the modern OZO Ostrava sorting plant, the first Sutco sorting plant in the Czech Republic. The study visit allowed them to familiarize themselves with the practical aspects of the operation of one of the leading installations in the region.
